Recovering deleted messages

Refers to: Mail , Mail Classic , Mobile Mail

Description

Learn the steps for recovering deleted emails from the Trash.

Resolution

When you delete emails in Yahoo! Mail, they go to your Trash folder. If you delete an email by mistake, you'll be able to find it in Trash and move it back to your Inbox or another folder. Just remember that emails in your Trash folder can be deleted at any time, without warning.

To recover an email from the Trash:

  1. In the folders list on the left side of the page, click Trash. The contents of the trash folder display on the right.
  2. Check the boxes to the left of any messages you would like to save.
  3. Click the Move button in the toolbar, and select another folder, such as the Inbox, to move the email to.

If the email doesn't appear in the Trash folder, it means that the trash has been emptied, and the email is no longer available.

To permanently remove the contents of your Trash folder:

Yahoo! Mail:

  1. In the upper left corner of the page, hover over the Trash folder. A trash can icon appears. (Note: this icon does not appear if the trash is already empty.)
  2. Click on the trash can icon.
A window opens asking "Are you sure...?"
  3. Click OK to delete.

Yahoo! Mail Classic:

  1. Click Empty next to "Trash" in the left navigation bar
A window opens asking "Are you sure...?"
  2. Click OK to delete or click Cancel to close the window.

After emails are emptied from Trash, they're permanently deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server.

Note: Residual copies of deleted messages may take up to 60 days to be deleted from our active servers. They may also remain in our backup systems for an additional period of time.
