How do I view an email that is in another language?

ID: SLN3604
Refers to: Mail

Description

This article explains how to set language encoding to enable viewing content that uses a different character set.

Resolution

Please note: Changing encoding allows you to view an email that is sent in a language that is not displaying correctly because it uses a different set of characters. It does not translate the email from one language to another.

In Yahoo! Mail, you can choose the type of character encoding you want. Here’s how:

  1. In the toolbar that appears above the message, click on the gear icon on the far right, and then select Language Encoding from the pull down menu.
  2. From the list that appears, select the encoding that matches the email's content.

Please note:  You can view your email using only one character encoding set at a time. Changing your browser’s encoding setting does not affect the character encoding used within Yahoo! Mail.
