Using the formatting toolbar when composing an email

Resolution

The formatting toolbar appears just beneath the subject line when you are composing an email. Note: If you don't see a formatting toolbar, this means you are in plain text mode; to switch to rich text mode, click the double arrow button (>>) just below your email's subject line, and the formatting toolbar appears.

Formatting Toolbar

Each button on the formatting toolbar allows you to change the way your email text or background appears:

  • "Tt" (Font): Changes highlighted text to a new font. 
  • "TT" (Font size): Changes highlighted text to a new font size.
  • "B" (Bold): Changes highlighted text to bold.
  • "I" (Italic): Changes highlighted text to italic.
  • "U" (Underline): Underlines highlighted text.
  • "A" (Text Color): Changes color of highlighted text. Click the button to select a color.
  • "A" (Text highlighter): Adds colored highlighting to the selected text. Click the button to select a color.
  • Bullets and numbering: Creates bulleted or numbered lists.
  • Increase/decrease indent: Moves text to the left or right. Place the cursor where you would like to move the text, then click these buttons.
  • Align text: Changes text alignment of highlighted text. Choose from flush-left, centered, or flush-right.
  • Hyperlink: Insert a web site link
  • Smiley face: Click to add an emoticon.
  • Stationery: Personalize your email using a variety of backgrounds.
  • "ABC" (Spell check): Click to activate spell check.
  • "<<" (Plain text): Change to plain text mode.
