How to block and unblock messages from a specific address
Resolution
If you don't want to receive email from a certain email address, you can block it in Yahoo! Mail. Incoming mail from blocked addresses is automatically deleted and doesn't bounce back to the sender. Note, also, that if you change your mind, you can unblock an address. At one time, you can block up to 500 email addresses.
Please note: In order to make changes to your Spam functions or adding a blocked address, you will need to use a desktop computer (Mac or PC).
To block an email address:
- Select Options | Mail Options.
- In the left pane, select Spam.
- Under Blocked Email Addresses, in the Add a blocked address field, type the email address of the person from whom you don't want to receive mail.
- Click Add.
- Click Save Changes.
The address is added to your list of blocked addresses.
With Yahoo! Mail, you can block up to 500 email addresses. You can see how many addresses you've blocked to the left of the list, for example, "4 of 500 used."
Sometimes, you’ll want to unblock an email address you had previously blocked. For example, you may want to unblock your niece who used to spam you who has finally grown up.
To unblock an email address:
- Select Options | Mail Options.
- In the left pane, select Spam.
- Under Blocked Email Addresses, in the Add a blocked address field, select the email address you no longer want to block.
- Click Remove.
- Click Save Changes.
The address is now removed from your list of blocked email addresses.
If you have tried adding or removing an address from your blocked list using the instructions above and it didn't work, please see this article.
If you are using the newest version of Yahoo! Mail, please follow the instructions on this help article.
Note: Blocking email addresses doesn’t always keep unwanted email away. For example, spammers often change their "From" addresses and user IDs, making it nearly impossible for you to block unwanted mail from them. For that, use Yahoo!’s SpamGuard.
