Recovering a lost or forgotten password

Trouble signing in to your Yahoo account? You can regain access using the Yahoo Password Helper. We’ll securely verify your identity, then help you reset your password.

 For your security, we don't have access to passwords. We can't tell you what your password is, or verify your current or previous password.

+ Reset your password using your alternate email address

  1. Go to the Yahoo Password Helper.
  2. Select I have a problem with my password and click Next.
  3. Enter your Yahoo ID and click Next.
  4. If prompted, enter the code from the CAPTCHA text verification.
  5. Select your alternate email address and click Next.
    - An email with the subject "Reset your  Yahoo password" will be sent to the alternate email address you selected.
  6. When you receive the email, click the Reset My Password link in the email message.
  7. Enter your new password, and click Next.

+ Reset your password using your mobile phone

 If you don't have a mobile number on file, that reset option won't be available in Password Helper.

  1. Go to the Yahoo Password Helper.
  2. Select I have a problem with my password.
  3. Enter your Yahoo ID and click Next.
  4. If prompted, enter the code from the CAPTCHA text verification.
  5. Select the Send a text message to recovery option and click Next.
    -A text message [SMS] with a verification code will be sent to your mobile number.
  6. Enter that verification code in the The code sent to my mobile phone is box.
    Important:
    If you close the "The code sent to my mobile phone is" page, you'll need to generate another code by going through steps 1-4 again.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Enter your new password, and click Next.

+ Reset your password using your secret questions

 If you don't have secret questions on file, that reset option won't be available in Password Helper.

  1. Go to the Yahoo Password Helper.
  2. Select I have a problem with my password.
  3. Enter your Yahoo ID and click Next.
  4. If prompted, enter the code from the CAPTCHA text verification.
  5. Select the Use my secret questions recovery option and click Next.
  6. Enter the answer to the first secret question presented and click Next.
  7. Enter the answer to the second secret question presented and click Next.
  8. Enter your new password, and click Next.
