This article provides the steps to set up your Yahoo! Mail Plus account so that you can send and receive all your email from a single place. Instructions are provided for setting up POP (Post Office Protocol). POP is the Internet protocol standard used by email readers. We also provide links to instructions for setting up your email program to receive your Yahoo! Mail.

Below, we provide instructions for:

  • How to make sure that POP is turned on (or "enabled") in your Yahoo! Mail account.
  • How to set up your email program (or "client") to receive your Yahoo! Mail.

How to make sure POP is turned on (or "enabled") for your Yahoo! Mail account:

  1. Select Options | Mail Options.
  2. Select POP & Forwarding (Forwarding in Mail Classic) from the list at the left. The "Access your Yahoo! Mail elsewhere" ("Forwarding" in Mail Classic) options display at the right.
  3. Verify that the option for Access Yahoo! Mail via POP is selected, which makes your account POP-enabled. If it is not selected, select the radio button next to it.
  4. Select the Save button.

You may be asked for the following information about incoming and outgoing server settings when setting up POP:

  • Incoming mail server settings:
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP) settings:
    • SMTP server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    • Use SSL
    • Port: 465
    • Use authentication
  • Email address: Your Yahoo! Mail email address (for example, jo.bloggs@yahoo.com)
  • Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
  • Account name/sign-in name: Your Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com" at the end; for example, "jo.bloggs")
