Why can't I open a file that I downloaded from a group?
Description
This article describes why a file downloaded from a group may fail to open on your computer.
Resolution
You may not have the program necessary to run the particular file type, or the file may be designed for a different kind of computer. Recheck the file description, or contact the member who posted the file for more details about the file type.
If you have the program that is necessary to run the file type but are still having trouble downloading a file, try the following troubleshooting steps:
If you are attempting to open a file on the Yahoo! Groups site:
- Open the attachment using a different Web browser. For example, if you are unable to open the file using Internet Explorer, try using Firefox.
- Temporarily disable any anti-virus, anti-spyware, or firewall programs. These products may be interfering with attachment downloads, especially if they aren't up-to-date.
If you are attempting to open an attachment to a message via email:
- Open the attachment using a different Web browser. For example, if you are unable to open the file using Internet Explorer, try using Firefox.
- Forward the email to an email account with a different email provider and then try to open it from the other account. Your email provider may be changing the extension of the file or blocking email attachments.
- Temporarily disable any anti-virus, anti-spyware, or firewall programs. These products may be interfering with attachment downloads, especially if they aren't up-to-date.
Note: Some groups store attachments onsite and exclude them from emails. If the attachments are stored on site, you will need to visit the "Attachments" section on the group's website and access the attachment there.
