Group Emails are delayed

Description

This article explains how to diagnose delayed group emails.

Resolution

If you are receiving delayed messages, please note that the Yahoo! Groups email system sends messages posted to the group to everyone in the group at the same time. To diagnose the problem, we need to determine if everyone in the group is experiencing a delay or only select users.

If all group members are experiencing a delay in emails, the problem is could be due to one of the following:

  • Messages to the group are being moderated and the moderators are not approving them right away.
  • There is a problem on the Yahoo! Groups side.

If you’ve checked with other group members and everyone is experiencing the problem, discuss with the moderators of the group if they need help in approving messages more quickly. If messages are not moderated for your group, or if there is a lag between when moderators approve messages and when users receive them, please contact Customer Care to report the problem.

If only you or just a subset of the group's members are receiving delayed messages, then the problem is almost certainly related to how your email provider or email client is handling messages from Yahoo! Groups. NOTE: Email providers frequently gray-list messages coming from “lists” or “groups” which will cause them to be delivered more slowly than the same message if it was mailed directly from one user to another.

If you are not a Yahoo! Mail user, you will have to contact your email provider to request faster delivery. For tips on information to send your email provider, please see the article "Not receiving emails from a group."

NOTE: Learning to read email headers should help you determine where the message delay occurred.

If you still have questions, try posting a question to Yahoo! Groups users on Yahoo! Answers, or visit one of the “groups about Groups.”

If Yahoo! Answers can't help, please contact Customer Care.
