How to ban and un-ban a member
Description
This article lists the steps a moderator, with sufficient privileges, can take to prohibit a member from their group or to permit to join your group.
Resolution
The "ban member" feature should be used with care. Banning removes the member and prevents the member from rejoining the group until the ban is removed.
To ban a member:
- Click Members from the list on the left of any page.
- Click the Manage members button in the upper right corner of the Members page.
- Find the person you want to ban.
- Click Edit Membership next to their name.
- Click Ban Member at the bottom of the page.
NOTE: You can ban the author of a message directly from the individual message page by clicking Ban author under their Yahoo! ID. You can also ban a person from your group even if that person is not already a member. This allows you to prevent people you know to be troublesome from joining your group in the first place.
To later remove the ban:
- Click Members from the list on the left of any page.
- Click the Manage members button in the upper right corner of the Members page.
- Click the Banned tab near the top of the page to view all people banned from the group.
- Select the person you'd like to reinstate by checking the box under the "Remove ban" column.
- Click Save Changes.
NOTE: When a moderator bans a member, two bans are placed--one for the subscribed email address, and one for the member's Yahoo! ID. The moderator will need to remove both bans in order for the member to be able to rejoin, or be re-added to the group.
