Manage group members

Group owners and moderators can modify another member's role, settings, send them a message, and ban or remove them.

Changing a member's role

  1. On the group's main page, select Management | Manage Members.
    • To view a list of moderators, click Moderators.
  2. Click the name of the member you'd like to modify.
    - The "Edit Member" window opens.
  3. To change the member's role, select a role from the "Role" dropdown:
    • Member
    • Owner
    • Moderator
  4. Click Save.

  Moderators: are you missing these options? You may not have been granted access to them. You can request access by contacting the group's owner.

+Modifying a member's settings

Do you want to modify a member's email delivery settings, posting privileges, or file upload settings? Perhaps you need to send them a message, or ban or remove them from the group--we'll show you how.

  1. On the group's main page, select Management | Manage Members.
    • To view a list of group moderators, click Moderators tab.
  2. Select the name of the member you'd like to modify.
  3. Click Actions.
  4. In the "Actions" menu, under "Manage Members" choose an option and corresponding setting:
Menu item What it does Sub-menu options
Change delivery settings Modifies the member's email delivery settings
  • Individual Emails
  • Daily Digest
  • Special Notices
  • No Email
Set posting privileges Modifies the member's posting privileges
  • Default Group Policy
  • Override - can't post messages
  • Override - posts are moderated
  • Override - posts are not moderated
Send Messages Prompts you to send a private message to the member  N/A
Disallow file upload Disables/enables the member's file uploading privileges  N/A
Ban members Bans the selected member(s)  N/A
Remove from group Removes the selected member(s) from the group  N/A

+Removing and banning members

You can remove or ban members/user IDs in bulk.

  There are daily limits: 200 IDs can be bulk removed, and 2000 IDs can be bulk banned.

Banning members in bulk

  1. On the group's main page, select Management | Manage Members.
  2. Select Actions | Ban members.
    - The "Ban members" window opens.
  3. Enter up to 100 email addresses or Yahoo IDs to be banned, separated by commas.
  4. Click Ban members.

Removing members in bulk

  1. On the group's main page, select Management | Manage Members.
  2. Select Actions | Remove members.
    - The "Remove members" window opens.
  3. Enter up to 100 email addresses or Yahoo IDs of group members to be removed from the group, separated by commas.
  4. Click Remove.
