Resolving "bouncing" accounts

Description

Learn why an email account status may be listed as "bouncing" in Yahoo!7 Groups and lists the steps you can take to reactivate your account.

Resolution

If messages sent from Yahoo!7 Groups to your email address are returned as undeliverable (a.k.a., "bouncing") for any reason, your Yahoo!7 Groups account may be temporarily disabled.

To determine why your account is listed as "bouncing":

  1. Visit your Yahoo!7 Groups page.
  2. Select Manage.
  3. Select Go to My Email Preferences.
  4. Select Show History next to your "bouncing" account.
  5. View the error message listed under "Last Bounced Message."

Note: The error messages in your Bounce History are the return messages we receive from your email provider

In many cases, Yahoo!7 Groups will automatically reactivate your account once the delivery problem is solved. However, this process can sometimes take a few days.

To immediately reactivate your "bouncing" account:

  1. Visit your Yahoo!7 Groups page.
  2. Look for a bounce alert near the top of the page.
  3. Select Go to My Email Preferences.
  4. Select Unbounce next to the bouncing email address.
-This immediately sends an email to your mailbox. If it’s no longer bouncing, you’ll receive that email.
  5. Select the confirmation link in the email.

Note: Reactivating your account will not immediately restore email delivery. The change in your status still needs to be propagated to all your groups. Usually, this happens within hours, but there may be occasions (particularly if you’re in a group with more than 75 members) when it may take a day or more.

If the issue persists, we recommend that you contact your email provider and provide them with a copy of the bounce message from your Bounce History. With this information, they should be able to explain why they are bouncing email sent to you from Yahoo!7 Groups. Along with the bounce message information, we also recommend referring them to our Yahoo!7 Groups for ISP and Mail Administrators where we maintain an up-to-date list of Yahoo!7 Groups outgoing mailer IP addresses.

In addition, we would be happy to work with their administrators to answer any of their questions. They can contact our technical team at ygmailadmin-owner@yahoogroups.com.

Additional Information

Messages sent from Yahoo!7 Groups can be returned for several reasons:

  • Your mailbox may be full -- try deleting messages from your inbox.
  • Your email provider may have a backlog of email to process -- contact your email provider.
  • Your email provider may be blocking email from Yahoo!7 Groups -- contact your email provider.
