Troubleshooting games in Internet Explorer 8 or 9 - Reinstall Java and Configure IE
Description
This article provides steps for uninstalling and reinstalling Java, as well as configuring Internet Explorer. These steps may be helpful in resolving any of the following issues:
- Games not loading
- Games freezing
- Games quitting unexpectedly
Resolution
If you are having trouble playing a game in Internet Explorer 8 or 9, there may be something wrong with your installation of Java, or with the way your browser is handling Java content.
First make sure that your version of Java is up to date and installed correctly. The best way to do that is to uninstall and reinstall Java. To uninstall the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from your system, use the "Add/Remove" Programs utility in the Microsoft Windows Control Panel:
- Click on the Start button to open the menu and locate Control Panel.
- Click on the Control Panel to open the Control Panel Window and select the Uninstall a program link.
- Locate and click each Java entry to highlight and then click the Uninstall button.
Once that has finished, reinstall Java.
NOTE: If you are running a 64-bit operating system, like Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7, please ensure you are installing the 32-bit version of Java on your system. Other users have found that the 64-bit version of Java does not work properly in our games.
If this does not resolve the issue, next make sure that your browser is properly configured.
To configure Internet Explorer:
- Close all applications including your Web browsers else the settings may not take immediate effect.
- Click the Start button.
