How do I add/edit holdings information in my portfolio?

ID: SLN4178
Refers to: Finance

Description

This document provides steps for adding or editing holdings information (tickers, symbols, securities) in Yahoo! Finance Portfolios.

Resolution

By adding holdings information to your portfolio, you can track the value and performance of your investments at a glance.

To add holdings information:

  1. Log into your account and open one of your saved portfolios under the "My Portfolios" tab on the Yahoo! Finance homepage.
  2. Click Add/edit holdings at the top of the Portfolio, next to "Edit" and "Create new." (Note: Please click here If you do not see the "Add/edit holdings" link)
  3. On the page which appears, enter the holdings information that you would like to track. For each ticker, the following holding information can be added:
    • Number of shares owned
    • Purchase date
    • Purchase price
    • Commission fees
    • Notes
  4. At the bottom of the page, click Save.

If you want to track different lots of the same symbol (for example, if you have purchased YHOO at two different times at different prices) add the symbol multiple times within the portfolio and then enter the appropriate details for each instance.

You can also access the "Add/Edit Holdings" page by clicking Edit, which appears next to the portfolio's name. Clicking Add/edit holdings data at the bottom of the "Edit Portfolio" page will route you to the same page described in the above steps.

Note: If you see a "View transactions" link instead of "Add/edit holdings" this means that the portfolio you are viewing has been converted to a transaction portfolio. Transaction portfolios allow you to enter more specific information about portfolio items and they also track your cash balance. Clicking View transactions will take you to a page where you can view and edit your transaction details.
