How to delete a ticker symbol from a portfolio

This article describes how to delete ticker symbols from Yahoo! Finance Portfolios, including all of the following:

  • Delete a ticker.
  • Delete shares or delete a share.
  • Delete a symbol.
  • Delete a stock or holding.

Resolution

To delete ticker symbols from your watchlist portfolio:

  1. Login to Yahoo! Finance.
  2. Select the portfolio you wish to modify in the My Portfolios drop-down.
  3. Select Add/Edit Holdings.
  4. To the right of the ticker, opposite the ticker symbol, select the XYou may have to scroll your browser window to see the right most column..
  5. In the Delete Warning pop-up, select Delete.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the Add/Edit Holdings page and select Save.

To delete ticker symbols from your transaction portfolio:

Note: when using a transactional portfolio, you can delete only transactions involving a ticker, rather than the ticker itself. If you have multiple transactions for a single ticker, you'll have to delete them individually using the following process:

  1. Login to Yahoo! Finance.
  2. Select the transaction portfolio you wish to modify in the My Portfolios drop-down.
  3. Select View transactions.
  4. Select Delete for the transaction involving the ticker you want to delete.
  5. Select Yes to delete the transaction.
  6. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for all remaining transactions involving the ticker.

Additional Information

You can also delete ticker symbols right from the main positions page of your watchlist portfolio. Please note that this method of removing a ticker symbol will delete all lots of a ticker symbol, if the "Consolidate multiple lots" option is checked within the "Edit Portfolio" page.

  1. Login to Yahoo! Finance.
  2. Select the portfolio you wish to modify in the My Portfolios drop-down.
  3. Locate the ticker symbol you wish to delete.
  4. Select X, opposite the ticker. You may have to scroll your browser window to the right to see the "X".
  5. Select Remove.
