How to troubleshoot problems with add-ons and toolbars in Internet Explorer
Description
This article describes how to reset Internet Explorer back to original settings in order to disable all toolbars or add-ons. This can also be helpful when encountering miscellaneous error messages on Yahoo! Finance.
Resolution
To resolve issues that are caused by add-ons, or toolbars in Internet Explorer, you will need to reset your Internet browser back to its original settings. This can be helpful in addressing a variety of issues including miscellaneous error messages, browser display problems, and general difficulties using the Yahoo! site.
The workflow described in this help document will disable any toolbars or any add-on to the browser. This will not harm or delete any of your Favorites. You will, however, lose any stored passwords. The reason for this action is that toolbars and other add-ons, other website cookies, or a change to your browser's security settings may interfere with functionality on Yahoo!.
Windows Internet Explorer 7, 8, and 9 for Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 has many security enhancements that make these versions of Internet Explorer less susceptible to spyware and to malware. Typically, badly written add-ons can affect the browsing experience in Internet Explorer. Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES) enables these browsers to recover from such situations. To use (RIES):
- Click Tools | Internet Options.
- Click the Advanced tab, then click Reset.
- In the "Reset Internet Explorer Settings" dialog box, make sure you have Delete personal settings checked, then click Reset.
- When Internet Explorer finishes restoring the default settings, click Close and then click OK twice.
- Close Internet Explorer. The changes take effect the next time that you open Internet Explorer.
Note: If you cannot start Internet Explorer for some reason, you can start RIES from "Internet Options" in your Control Panel.
RIES restores the default settings of the following features:
- Homepages
- Search scopes
- Browsing history
- Form data
- Passwords
- Appearance settings
- Toolbars
- ActiveX controls
Once that has been completed, please make sure you have the correct version of Java installed.
