Parent's Guide to using Yahoo! Answers safely
Resolution
Yahoo! is committed to providing a safe online experience for all users and accordingly, complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Yahoo! Answers offers a number of safety features to limit the potential risks to its users. However, protecting children and teenagers online is a shared responsibility and requires the participation of parents, teachers, and other caregivers.
We suggest you start by understanding general practices for online safety for you and your child. These general practices include safeguarding one’s identity online, keeping passwords secret, being cautious about contact with strangers, and creating a pledge for online safety.
If while using Yahoo! Answers, your child is exposed to obscene language, mature content, threats of physical violence, harassment, or anything else that violates Yahoo!’s overall Terms of Service or the Yahoo! Answers Community Guidelines, make sure you or your child report the abuse to Yahoo! by clicking the "Report Abuse" link under any question or answer.
To limit the risk of exposure to abuse, review the safety features on Yahoo! Answers and work with your child to select appropriate Yahoo! Answers profile settings.
And remember, Yahoo! Kids has all kinds of age-appropriate content and activities for children under the age of 13.
As part of an online community, Answers users are able to “connect” to one another. Users under the age of 18 should remember that as they link to other users in the Answers community, those people can view the questions they have asked and answers they have given. If any users feel uncomfortable with other people connecting to their activity on Answers, they should modify their preferences to prevent other Answers users connecting to them.
