ID: SLN5367
Refers to: Yahoo! Account , Mail , Mail Classic , Mobile Mail

Resolution

Yahoo! allows you to access several services by using a Facebook, Google, or other OpenID services in association with OpenID. When deleting an OpenID account, there are two scenarios to consider:

  • Non-upgraded OpenID accounts: This type of account is created using a Facebook, Google, or other OpenID service, but is not tied to the Yahoo! Mail or Yahoo! Messenger services.
  • Upgraded OpenID accounts: This type of account is created using a Facebook, Google, or other OpenID service, and has been upgraded to a full Yahoo! account to access Yahoo! Mail or Yahoo! Messenger.

To delete a non-upgraded OpenID account:

  • A different process because it's not a full Yahoo! account: A non-upgraded OpenID account is not a full Yahoo! account.
    - It cannot be deleted through the regular online account deletion assistant.
    - OpenID unbinding instructions: Instead, you will need to refer to the OpenID unbinding instructions to delete your account.
  • For OpenID accounts not created using Facebook or Google: OpenID accounts that were not created using Facebook or Google cannot be unbound.
    - First, upgrade: To delete one of these accounts, you will first need to upgrade your account.
    - Then you can delete: You will then be able to delete the account by following the regular Yahoo! account deletion instructions.

To delete an upgraded OpenID account:

  • First, unbind your Google or Facebook account from your Yahoo!: If you have upgraded your OpenID account to access the Yahoo! Mail or Yahoo! Messenger services, you will need to first unbind your Google or Facebook account from your Yahoo! account, as simply deleting your Yahoo! account will not remove the connection between Yahoo! and the OpenID service.
  • How to unbind: You will first need to refer to the OpenID unbinding instructions to unbind your Facebook or Google account from Yahoo!.
  • To complete the deletion process: Afterwards, you can refer to the Yahoo! account deletion instructions to finish the deletion process.
