Do I have parental controls for my child's Yahoo! account?

Description

This article explains the removal of the Family Accounts Manager and discontination of Parental Controls for your Yahoo! Family Account.

Resolution

The Family Accounts Manager and Parental Controls are no longer available. If you need to access your child's Yahoo! account, you can sign in with their Yahoo! ID and password.

Yahoo! Family accounts provides you the ability to manage the information that your child shares with Yahoo! as well as a few tools to manage your child's Yahoo! account. Please be aware that Yahoo! does not have any control over which websites you or your child choose to visit. Your Internet service provider (ISP)--the company you use to connect to the Internet--may provide some tools that can limit which sites you or your child can visit.

We recommend that your younger children look for websites on Yahooligans!, the Yahoo! Web guide for children ages 7 to 12. Although it doesn't prevent children from accessing other sites directly, it does list only "Kid-friendly" websites. With a Yahoo! Family account, the parent can:

  • Create Yahoo! IDs for multiple children under 13 in their family.
  • Modify a child's email blocklists, friends list, and instant message Ignore list.
  • Sign in as your child to be aware of any aspect of their account.
  • Protect your child from accessing certain age-restricted areas of Yahoo!.

Yahoo! Family accounts also offers a set of resources to help your family safely surf the Web. Please visit our Internet Safety Resources for Parents.
