Why am I receiving a message to enter a valid password when I attempt to change it?

ID: SLN3061
Refers to: Yahoo! Account , Mail , Mail Classic

Resolution

If you attempted to change your password and received a message stating you need to enter a valid password, there are several possible causes:

  • You used part of your name in your password
  • You used the word password as your selection
  • Your password is less than 6 characters in length
  • You used your phone number (if you previously provided it in your Account Information page).

For security reasons, we don't allow passwords with these characteristics.

If your new password doesn't fit any of the criteria above, and you are still unable to change it, please contact Yahoo! Customer Care for further assistance.
