How to upgrade to a full Yahoo! account from a Facebook or Google ID

ID: SLN2121
Refers to: Yahoo! Account , Mail , Mail Classic , Mobile Mail , Flickr

Description

Learn how you may be limited if you sign in to Yahoo! using either your Google or Facebook IDs, and how to get full access.

Resolution

When you sign in using your Facebook or Google login you are provided with limited access. Products like Yahoo! Mobile or Yahoo! Mail will not work until you upgrade to a full Yahoo! account.

To upgrade your account:

After verifying your Google/Facebook username and password, you will be asked to select a new Yahoo! ID and password.
  1. Visit the Yahoo! Mail site, and sign in using your Google/Facebook ID.
  2. On the next page, you will be asked to verify your account. You will need to provide your user name and password a second time.
  3. Once you have selected a new ID and password, click Upgrade My Account.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to choose Ymail.com or Rocketmail.com as your mail domain with an account created through the Facebook or Google login feature.

Note: After upgrading your account, you will be able to log in to Yahoo! using either your Google/Facebook login information or your new Yahoo! ID. However, when signing in with your Google ID, you will still need to click the Sign in with: Google button. Additionally, you will need to use the username and password obtained during the upgrade process when logging in from a mobile device.
