Sending an email message to a contact list
Description
A "contact list" contains selected contacts from your Yahoo! Contacts. In addition to being a way to gather your contacts into meaningful groups, contact lists provide a way to easily send the same email message to multiple people, such as family members, a reading group, or a ski team.
Note: Only contacts who have an email address in their contact details receive email messages sent to the list.
Resolution
For basic instructions on addressing an email, see Addressing an email message.
Sending an email message from Yahoo! Mail
- In Yahoo! Mail, click Compose to begin a new email message.
- On the compose page, enter the contact list name in the To, CC, or BCC address box.
- To send the email to everyone in the list, type the list name in the address box.
As you type, the name should appear in the suggestion list below the address box. If you like, select the suggestion to complete the address.
Yahoo! Mail replaces the list name with all of the email addresses from the list.
- To send the email to selected people in the list, do the following:
- Click the plus sign (+) to the right of an address box.

The "Choose Contacts" window opens.
- In the window, select the list name from the View pull-down menu.
All of the contacts in the selected list appear in the "Choose Contacts" window.
- Select the people you want to send the email to and click Done.
The selected email addresses appear in the address box.
- Click the plus sign (+) to the right of an address box.
Tip: If you don't want the email addresses to be visible to the recipients, type an email address you don't mind sharing in the To address box and type the list name in the BCC box. Doing so hides the list's email addresses from everyone, and also makes it impossible to reply to everyone in the list. You may need to display the "BCC" box by first clicking the BCC button to the right of the "To" or "CC" box.

- To send the email to everyone in the list, type the list name in the address box.
-
Complete and send your message.
Sending an email message from Yahoo! Contacts:
- In Yahoo! Mail, click the Contacts tab.
Your lists appear under "Lists" on the left side of the page.
Tip: If your lists aren't visitble, click the arrow to the left of "Lists".

- Select the list you want to email.
The contacts in the list appear in the middle column.
- Select the contacts you want to email.
- If you want to email everyone in the list, click the box next to Select All at the top of the middle column.

- If you want to email specific people, select each contact.
- If you want to email everyone in the list, click the box next to Select All at the top of the middle column.
- Click Compose Message on the right side of the page.

A "New Message" tab opens with all of the selected email addresses listed in the To address box.
Tip: If you don't want the recipients to see the email addresses, cut them from the To box and paste them into the BCC box (click the BCC button to the right of the address box).

Doing so hides the list's email addresses from everyone, and also makes it impossible to reply to everyone in the list.
Type an email address that you don't mind sharing in the To box.
- Compose and send your message.
Sending an email to a large number of recipients:
Unfortunately, due to our spam policy, we cannot disclose the number of recipients you can email at once. To prevent spam, the following may happen when you send an email to a large number of recipients:
- You may be asked to enter a CAPTCHA verification code before you send the email.
- You may be unable to send the email unless you reduce the number of recipients in the "To," "Cc," and/or "Bcc" address boxes.
If you send messages to a large number of people on a regular basis, consider using Yahoo! Groups, which is better suited to handle high volumes of messages and mailing list distribution.
Note: Sending junk mail or "spam" is a violation of the Yahoo! Mail Terms of Service and is not tolerated.
