This article describes the steps to follow if you are unable to uninstall Yahoo! Messenger and are receiving a "Could not open install.log file" error message, or when Yahoo! Messenger is not listed in Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features.

There is a corrupt or missing Yahoo! Messenger install.log file, or a missing entry in Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features that is necessary to uninstall the application.

Please try downloading Messenger again and then re-installing:

1. Download and install Yahoo! Messenger again to restore any corrupt or missing files.
2. Once this process is complete, try uninstalling Yahoo! Messenger again from the control panel following the instructions for your computer:
   - Microsoft Windows XP: Instructions for uninstalling Yahoo! Messenger from Windows XP.
   - Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7: Instructions for uninstalling Yahoo! Messenger from Windows Vista or Windows 7.

 Note: Download time can take anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes. In addition, 100 MB of free disk space is required to install Yahoo! Messenger.
