Recover your Yahoo! ID or password using your alternate email address or security questions

ID: SLN2081
Refers to: Yahoo! Account

Resolution

If you've forgotten your Yahoo! ID or password, you can recover them using the account recovery wizard. This tool verifies that you are the account owner by prompting you either to answer the "secret questions" or to provide an alternate email address, if you have one on file. It then sends you your Yahoo! ID or a link that allows you to reset your password.

To recover your Yahoo! ID:

  1. Go to the Yahoo! account recovery wizard.
  2. Click I forgot my Yahoo! ID. | Click Next
  3. Enter your alternate email address, birthday, country of residence, and postal code.
    • Our system will check if your entries match a Yahoo! ID on file. If they match, a message displays saying that an email with the Yahoo! ID has been sent to your alternate email address. (Sign into to your alternate email account and look for an email from Yahoo! Customer Care. If you do not see it in a few minutes, be sure and check your Spam and Trash folders.)
  4. Click Continue to Yahoo! and sign in.

To recover your password:

  1. Go to the Yahoo! account recovery wizard.
  2. Click I have a problem with my password.
  3. Enter your Yahoo! ID and the CAPTCHA word verification.
    • Your options for password recovery will be displayed.
  4. Select one of these options for how to receive password reset instructions.
    • Depending on what you have set up, your options may include:
      • Email: Send an email to [email address on file]
      • Text: Send a text message to [mobile number on file]
      • Secret question: Use my secret questions
  5. Click Next.
  6. Follow the prompts based on your selection.
    • You'll receive instructions for how to reset your password:
      • Email: You'll receive an email with the subject line "How to reset your Yahoo! ID" within 30 minutes.
      • Text: A temporary password will be sent to the mobile device number on file.
      • Secret question: Upon successful completion of the questions, you will be able to reset your password immediately.
