Using the Link Dialog

Use the Link dialog to create or modify a link to a page in your web site, a file in your site, a web address, or an email address.

Step 1: Choose the type of link you want to create.
Decide where your visitors will go when they click your link.

A Page in My Site
Select this option to link to another page within your site. When your site visitors click on this link, they will go to the page that you specify. Use the pull-down menu next to Select a page from my site: to select the page to which you want to link.

Note: To link to a page in a different web site, use the Another Web Site link option.

Another Web Site
Select this option to link to an Internet web address, or URL. When your site visitors click on this link, they will go to the web site you specify. Enter the URL following the http:// in the Enter the destination URL: field.

Note: To link to a page in your own web site, use the Link to Location: A Page in My Site link option.

An Email Address
Select this option to link to an email address. When your site visitors click on this link, they will open an email window addressed to the email address you specify here. Enter the full email address following the mailto: in the An email address: field.

A File on My Computer
Select this option to link to a file within your site, such as a spreadsheet or audio clip. When your site visitors click on this link, they will open the file you specify. Click the Browse... button to choose the file to which you want to link.

If the file you choose is not already stored with your site, SiteBuilder will ask you if you want to copy the file into your site. Be sure to click OK if you see this prompt: Links to files that are not part of your web site will not work when your web site visitors click on them.

Other
Select this option to enter a custom link destination. This option is recommended only for advanced users, as invalid code in this field may create errors on your web page.

Step 2: Choose the link destination.
Choose the page of your site or enter the web address, email address, or file name of the place to which you want to link. (See above for more details.)

Step 3: Decide how the link should behave.
Use this pull-down menu to select where the link should open. You can decide whether the target page, file, or email will open in your site visitors' current browser window or in a new window.

Step 4: Enter the text to be linked.
If you are linking text, you can use this field to enter or modify the text that you would like to link.

Step 5: Create or remove your link.
Click the Create button to create the link whose attributes you specified above. Click the Remove button to remove an existing link.
