If you are using Yahoo! SiteBuilder or a third-party site building tool such as Macromedia Dreamweaver or Microsoft FrontPage to build your web site, changes you make to your pages in File Manager may not be reflected when you open your software to review your work, and your pages may be damaged.
SiteBuilder and other tools that can be used offline (in other words, without connecting to the Internet) communicate between two versions of your web site folder and files: those stored on your local computer (your local web site) and the equivalent files stored on the Yahoo! servers (your remote web site). When you create or update web pages, you work with files stored on your computer; then, when you publish your web site, you add to or replace the files on our servers with the latest version of your local files. Each time you publish, you synchronize the remote version of your web site — the web site your visitors see on the Internet — with your local site.
File Manager displays your web site files as they appear on our servers. If you make changes to your files (such as renaming, moving, or editing them) using File Manager, the changes will be reflected only in File Manager; they will not affect files on your local machine. For this reason, when you reopen your site building tool to work with your files, you will not see the changes you made in File Manager. When you republish your site, your local web site files will overwrite any changes you made to your files in File Manager.
Please note: Due to the complexity of some site building software, we strongly recommend that you do not attempt to update existing web pages with a tool other than the one you used to create them. Using a tool such as File Manager with Yahoo! SiteBuilder or third-party software may not only prevent some of your changes from appearing but also damage your existing files.
