Synchronizing Music With Your Player

An easy way to keep the music on your portable player current with your latest My Music collection is to set up automatic synchronization between the two. This means that whenever you connect your device to your computer with the Yahoo! Music Jukebox running, your portable music is automatically updated—you don't have to do anything.

If you prefer, you can also synchronize your music collection with your device manually.

Here’s How

  1. Prepare your computer to transfer music to your portable device. (Remind me how.)

  2. Select the player that you want to configure for synchronization in the left navigation pane.

  3. Click the Synchronize button in the player's display.

    Click the Synchronize button

The Synchronize Device window opens so you can set up your synchronization.

  4. In the middle of the window, select the part of your music collection that you want to synchronize with your portable device.

    • If you want to synchronize all the transferable songs in My Music on your computer, select Synchronize all of My Music.

Select Synchronize all of My Music.

    • If you want to synchronize the songs from one or more playlists in My Music, select Synchronize the selected playlists and then click the check box in front of each playlist to include.

The Party Music playlist is selected for synchronization.

  5. To have the Yahoo! Music Jukebox automatically synchronize each time you connect the device, click the check box for Automatically synchronize tracks at the top of the window.

Click the Automatically synchronize tracks check box.

If you don't select this option, you can still synchronize manually whenever your player is connected to the Yahoo! Music Jukebox.

  6. To start a manual synchronization, click the Begin Transferring Tracks button at the bottom of the Synchronize Device window.

Click the Begin Transferring Tracks button.

During synchronization, you'll see status messages at the bottom of the Yahoo! Music Jukebox window.

    The synchronization progress display.

When synchronization is complete, you can refresh the device display in the Yahoo! Music Jukebox's center pane to check out its new music.

    Click the Refresh button.

What’s Next

When the Yahoo! Music Jukebox synchronizes your device, it does several things:

  • It verifies that the songs that you want to transfer are licensed for use on a portable device and informs you of any licensing problems.
  • If any of the tracks that you've selected for transfer are bookmarked for streaming in Yahoo! Music Unlimited, it downloads them to your computer. (The Yahoo! Music Jukebox can transfer only local music to a portable device.)
  • It transfers to the player any music that you've added to your collection (or to the specified playlists) since the last synchronization.
  • It deletes from the player any songs that you've removed from My Music since the last synchronization.
