What Is the Yahoo! Music Jukebox?

The Yahoo! Music Jukebox is a free desktop application that brings you a new and powerful way to enjoy and explore music on your PC. With the Yahoo! Music Jukebox, you can mix and burn CDs, import and manage music, transfer music to portable music players, and more.

This area shows information about the currently playing song. Search for songs, albums, and artists here. Choose an item in the navigation pane to view that feature or service in the center pane. The center pane lets you see and work with the currently selected feature or service. Build playlists in the Now Playing pane. Here’s the 5-band graphic equalizer. With the Yahoo! Music Jukebox, you also get access to Yahoo! Music Unlimited, a library of more than two million songs, a subscription service to enjoy any or all of those songs for a low monthly fee, discount, burnable downloads, LAUNCHcast Radio, and more. With Yahoo! Music Unlimited To Go, you can even take your music with you on a portable music player. Together, Yahoo! Music Unlimited and the Yahoo! Music Jukebox let you listen and explore your music with friends—they can hear your music and you can hear theirs using Yahoo! Messenger.

You can use the Yahoo! Music Jukebox to play music that is stored on your computer, or from a CD, without logging on or connecting to the Internet. To enjoy streaming music, or to purchase music, you must be signed in to the Yahoo! Music Jukebox.

 

Here’s How

  1. Be sure that the Yahoo! Music Jukebox is installed on your computer. If you need help with installation, go to Install Yahoo! Music Jukebox.

  2. Start the Yahoo! Music Jukebox in one of the following ways:

    • Double-click the Yahoo! Music Jukebox icon on your Windows desktop.

    • Click the Windows Start button, select Programs, then Yahoo! Music Jukebox.

      Select Programs > Yahoo! Music Jukebox from the Start menu.

    • Click the Yahoo! Music Jukebox "head phones" icon in the lower right system tray.

  3. When the Yahoo! Music Unlimited page appears, click the Sign In button above the navigation pane.

    Click the Sign in button.

  4. On the Sign In page, type your Yahoo! ID and your password, then click the Sign In button. Use the same Yahoo! ID and password that you use for Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Messenger, and other Yahoo! services.

    Enter your Yahoo! ID and password, then click Sign In.

    Tip: If you want the Yahoo! Music Jukebox to sign you in automatically whenever you launch the application, select the Remember my ID and password check box.

    If you don't have a free Yahoo! ID yet, click the Get a Yahoo ID button to register for one.

Words to Know

  • Burn: to copy music to a CD for playback through your home, car, or portable CD player.
  • Burnable download: a song you purchase individually that you can burn to a CD for playback through your home, car, or portable CD player.
  • CD: short for "compact disc", a small, portable medium for electronically recording, storing, and playing back audio, video, text, and other digital information.
  • Import: to copy music from an external source, such as a CD or your computer’s hard drive, into My Music.
  • LAUNCHcast Radio: a streaming music service that allows you to create your own customized station tailored to your tastes and provides an extensive collection of other music stations that offer a wide variety of genres and themes
  • Portable music player: a small electronic device for playing music. Different types of devices support transferring different types of music from the Yahoo! Music Jukebox.
  • Rating: information that a member provides about how much he likes a particular song, artist, or album. Yahoo! Music bases its recommendations on a member’s previous ratings.
  • Yahoo! Music Unlimited: a collection of more than two million songs, available by subscription and for purchase through the Yahoo! Music Jukebox.
  • Yahoo! Music Unlimited To Go: a Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription that allows you to transfer subscription music to portable music players; it is an upgrade from the basic Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription.
  • Yahoo! Messenger: an application that lets you communicate using your voice, text, or other means with one or more people over the Internet in real time (instantly).
