Burning a CD From a Playlist

One of the easiest ways to create a CD using the Yahoo! Music Jukebox is to burn the music that's already in one of your playlists.

Tip: See the Working With Playlists tutorial for additional information on creating a playlist to burn to CD.

Here’s How

  1. Prepare your computer to burn a CD. (Remind me how.)

  2. In the left navigation pane, select the playlist that you want to copy to the CD.

Select a playlist to copy to CD.

  3. In the playlist display in the center pane, verify that the songs in the playlist are all burnable and that they’re organized as you want them (for example, in the sequence you want).

Tip: If there's still space available on the CD, you can add more music to your playlist any time until you actually burn the CD. On average, you can burn between ten to twenty songs per CD, based on the song file and CD size.

If your playlist is too large to burn onto one CD, the Burn CD button is grayed out and the SmartSplit button displays.

The SmartSplit button appears when you have more music than fits on one CD.

SmartSplit is a feature of Yahoo! Music Jukebox Plus. If you do not have Yahoo! Music Jukebox Plus, you need to uncheck tracks in your list until your selected music fits on the CD and the Burn CD button displays.

Uncheck tracks until your music fits on the CD.

For more information about CD SmartSplit, see the Yahoo! Music Jukebox Plus Help.

  4. When the playlist is ready, click the Burn playlist to CD button at the top of the display.

Click the Burn playlist to CD button.

The Yahoo! Music Jukebox begins analyzing your music selections to detect any possible problems, such as nonburnable tracks. In the center pane, you see information about the CD that you're about to burn, including a list of all the tracks and their total duration.

  5. When the Yahoo! Music Jukebox finishes checking your tracks, it displays a new status message:

    • If everything's good to go, you'll see a Ready to burn message.

The Ready to burn message indicates that you can begin burning the CD.

    • If there are any problems (for example, your playlist contains a track that's corrupt or not burnable), you'll see a message explaining what's wrong.

The message suggest that you select each grayed out track to view its error.

Follow the on-screen information to fix any problems before continuing.

  6. When everything's ready, click the Burn CD button.

    Click the Burn CD button.

While your computer is writing the tracks to the CD, you'll see a progress bar at the bottom of the Yahoo! Music Jukebox window.

The progress bar shows how the CD burning is going.

What’s Next

When all the tracks have been burned, you can listen to your new CD on your computer—or eject it and play on any of your other CD players.

Note: Yahoo! Music Unlimited burnable downloads allow seven playlist burns each. That means you can burn a song in the same playlist up to seven times. To continue making copies after burning the same playlist seven times, you need to move the song or songs to a new playlist.
