Adding Subscription Music From Yahoo! Music Unlimited

If you're a Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscriber, you can quickly and easily add an unlimited number of full songs from the Yahoo! Music Unlimited library to My Music as subscription music.

Songs you add from Yahoo! Music Unlimited can be downloaded or bookmarked in My Music.

Adding the songs to My Music does one of two things, depending on your Yahoo! Music Jukebox settings:

  • Download the music: The Yahoo! Music Jukebox downloads (copies) the full song file to your PC as local music. You can listen to downloaded songs anytime, whether you're online or offline in My Music.

The download option is the default; we recommend that you leave your preferences set to download songs so you can enjoy your music when you're offline.

Tip: To transfer subscription music to a portable music player, you must have a Yahoo! Music Unlimited To Go subscription. The transfer process involves first downloading the music to My Music, then copying it to the device.

  • Bookmark the music: The Yahoo! Music Jukebox places a bookmark to the song in My Music. You can listen to bookmarked songs as streaming media whenever you're connected to the Internet, but not when you're offline. Because the songs are coming to you over the Internet, you can listen to bookmarked songs on any computer that has the Yahoo! Music Jukebox installed.

Whichever option you choose for adding Yahoo! Music Unlimited songs to My Music, you can play your subscription music on the Yahoo! Music Jukebox, add it to playlists, and share it with your friends using the Messenger Music feature. The only thing you can't do with your subscription songs is burn them to CD.

Here’s How

  1. Launch the Yahoo! Music Jukebox.

  2. Click Y! Unlimited in the left navigation pane in the Yahoo! Music Jukebox to access Yahoo! Music Unlimited.

Click the Y! Unlimited link to access Yahoo! Music Unlimited.

  3. Search for music you like, or click any of the album, artist, or song recommendations on the Yahoo! Music Unlimited page. You can add any song that has an Add to My Music button (Add to My Music button). You'll find this button next to individual song titles, as well as next to albums.

  4. When you find music that you want to add, click the Add to My Music button.

Click the Add to My Music button.

Note: If you’re not a subscriber, clicking this button starts the subscription sign-up process, which you have to complete in order to add music.

What’s Next

When the download or bookmarking is done, the newly added songs appear in My Music. Downloaded songs are marked "Subscription"; bookmarked songs are labeled "Stream".

Added songs show up as Subscription or Stream.

As long as you keep your subscription up to date, all your subscription music is available to listen to, share, take on the road (if you have Yahoo! Music Unlimited To Go), mix, and so on. If your subscription lapses, you no longer have access to the songs, but your collection isn't deleted—it’s stored in My Music until you're ready to resume your subscription.

If you decide that you want to change the default mode for adding subscription music from downloading to bookmarking, it's easy to do:

  1. Open the Preferences window by selecting Preferences from the Yahoo! Music Jukebox's Edit menu.

  2. Click the Y! Unlimited option in the Preferences window.

  3. Select the Bookmark It option under When I Add A Selection To My Music.

  4. Click OK to close the Preferences window.

You can always change this setting back when you want to download subscription music again.
