Showing and Hiding Content Tabs

The content tabs at the bottom of your Messenger window allow you to access a Yahoo! feature, such as sports and games, while continuing to use your Messenger List and Messenger address book.

Yahoo! Messenger offers the following tabs:

Buzz icon Buzz—View a summary of the most popular Yahoo! searches and access the Yahoo! Buzz Index web page.
Calendar icon Yahoo! Calendar—See today's events and tasks from your Yahoo! Calendar and add new events and tasks.
Entertainment Tonight icon Entertainment Tonight—Check out the latest celebrity news from Entertainment Tonight.
Yahoo! Games icon Yahoo! Games—Play solitary games or start a game with one of your contacts.
LAUNCHcast Radio icon Yahoo! Music—Create your own radio station and listen to the music you like.
News icon News—Stay current with the top news stories.
Yahoo! applications icon Overview—Get a summary of and access to your other Yahoo! applications, such as Yahoo! Mail.
Sports icon Sports—Follow your favorite teams and keep up with the sports news.
Stocks icon Stocks—Monitor and edit your Yahoo! financial portfolios.
Weather icon Weather—View the forecast in your area or anywhere you choose.
Yahoo! 360 icon Yahoo! 360°—Access your Yahoo! 360° account and stay connected with family and friends.

You can choose which tabs you want to display in your Messenger window, and you can choose the order in which to display them.

You can also collapse or expand a tab's display area, allowing a full view of your Messenger List and Messenger address book. And, except for the Yahoo! Music tab, you can adjust the size of each tab's display area.

 

Here's How

  1. In your Messenger window, click the symbols to the right of the tabs, then select Customize from the displayed menu.

    Select Customize from the displayed menu.

    The Messenger Preferences window opens.

    Tip: You can also access the Messenger Preferences window by selecting Preferences from the Messenger menu in your Messenger window or from the Conversation menu in your IM window.

  2. In the Preferences window, select the Content Tabs category.

    Select the Content Tabs category.

  3. On the right side of the Preference window, choose the tabs you want to display or hide by selecting one or more tab names, then clicking the Show or Hide button to move the tabs between the Hidden Tabs and Displayed Tabs lists.

    Select a tab, then click the Show or Hide button.

  4. Choose the order in which you want the tabs displayed by selecting a tab, then clicking the Up or Down button to move the tab up or down.

  5. Click the OK button.

    Your selected tabs display in the specified order in your Messenger window.

  6. If the window is too narrow to display all of your selected tabs, do one of the following:

    • Use the cursor to drag the window's border and make it larger.

      Use the cursore to resize the window.

    • Click the symbols to the right of the tabs, then select a tab from the displayed menu.

      Choose a tab from the menu.

      The selected tab replaces the last tab in the display, and the replaced tab moves to the menu.

  7. To collapse or expand a tab's display area, click the up or down arrow.

    Click the up or down arrow.

    Tip: Expanding or collapsing applies to all of the content tabs.

  8. To adjust the size of a tab's display area, drag the top bar up or down. You can't resize the Yahoo! Music tab.

    Tip: Resizing applies to the individual content tab.
