Working With Shortcuts

Email messages can contain shortcuts, a feature that identifies useful information, such as email addresses, physical addresses, and phone numbers. A shortcut underlines information so that you can act on it. For example, you can click a phone number and add it to your Yahoo! Contacts or click an address and view a map of its location.

Shortcuts are easy and convenient to use...just place the cursor over them and choose an option.

Here’s How

  1. If an email message includes underlined text, you’re likely seeing a shortcut. Place the cursor over the underlined text, then select an option from the Shortcuts menu that pops up.

Place the cursor over the underlined text, then select an option from the Shortcuts menu.

    The Yahoo! Shortcuts window opens.

    The Yahoo! Shortcuts window

If you view a map, the shortcuts window includes a Maps tab and a Contacts tab. You can view the location on the map, and then add the information to your contacts.

When you view a map, the Yahoo! Shortcuts window shows a Maps tab and a Contacts tab.

  2. If you want to add information to your Contacts, do the following:

    • Specify whether to add the information to an existing contact or a new contact. If adding to an existing contact, type the contact’s name or Yahoo! ID in the box.

Add the information to an existing contact or a new contact.

    • Click the Continue button to display the next step.

    • Complete the contact information, then click the Save button.

Complete the contact information, then click Save.

What’s Next

You can choose to hide or show shortcuts on the Mail Options page. Just click the Options link near the top of any shortcut window to go to the General Options page.

Click the options link on any Shortcuts window

In the Shortcuts section, select the types of shortcuts that you want to see, then click the Save Changes button.

Set your Shortcuts preferences, then click Save Changes.

To block all shortcuts from appearing in your messages, uncheck all of the Shortcuts options.
