Personalizing Your Chat Message
Make your chat messages playful by using different font styles and colors and adding emoticons. Both you and your contact will see these changes in your conversation areas.
Your font "toys" sit above your message input box, so they’re easy to use.

To change your font style and color, use any of the font toys.
Notes:
Your font changes appear in the conversation area for your messages while your contact’s messages appear in the font style of his or her choice.
Your Windows Live™ Messenger friends won’t be able to see bold, italics, underline, or color text changes in your messages. -
To add an emoticon, click the emoticon toy, then select from the displayed emoticons.
The input box shows the actual characters used to create the emoticon. When you send your message, both you and your contact see the graphic emoticon in the conversation area.
Tip: You can just type the characters of the emoticon you want. You can even choose from many more emoticons if you know their character representation. Check out all of our emoticons and their associated characters on our emoticons page.
