Viewing and Downloading Images

Yahoo! Mail includes special tools that let you view images attached to your email messages right in the message, as well as select some images to download—or download them all.

 

Here’s How

  1. Open a message with one or more attachments. (Remind me how.)

    If image blocking is enabled, a yellow bar appears above the email message, informing you that the message contains image attachments.  Learn more

  2. Click the Show Images button to see the blocked images.

    Click the Show Images button to see the HTML images in a mail message.

    The attached images appear as thumbnails below the message so you can preview the pictures without having to download them.

  3. There are several things you can do with the attached images:

    • To view a slideshow of all the images, click the View Slideshow link.

      Click View Slideshow to see

      Larger versions of the pictures display, one at a time, in an overlay on top of Yahoo! Mail. When you’re done viewing the slideshow, click Close in the lower right corner of the display to return to the Reading Pane.

      Click Close to end the slideshow.

    • To download just some of the images to your computer, first click the check box in front of each picture that you want.

      With the images chosen, click the Download Selected link.

      Click Download Selected to download the images you’ve chosen.

      Yahoo! Mail scans the images for viruses and downloads them, as described in Downloading Non-Image Attachments.

    • To download all the attachments (images and non-images) in this email message, click the Download All link.

      Click Download All to download all attached files.

      Yahoo! Mail scans the attachments for viruses and downloads them, as described in Downloading Non-Image Attachments.

      Tip: You can also click the Download All link at the top of the message to download all attached files.

      Click Download All to download all attached files.

 

What’s Next

All images you download are saved to your computer, where you can view, edit, and share them using other applications.

Words to Know

  • Download: to transfer a file from a remote computer to your computer.
  • Image: a picture that someone has stored in an electronic form, such as files with .JPG, .BMP, or .GIF formats (among many others).
  • Slideshow: a self-running presentation that displays larger versions of the photos, one at a time.
  • Thumbnail: a small version of an image, often linked to a larger version.
