Upgrading to Yahoo! Merchant Solutions will change the way you participate in Yahoo! Shopping

Yahoo! Shopping now requires new fields of information, in order to properly list your products. For more information on these fields and their use please see Product Submit Help Pages

  • If you maintain your store using the Store Editor, you may continue to do so, but first you must add the new Yahoo! Shopping fields to your Catalog manager.

  • If you maintain your store using the Catalog Manager and Store Tags, you will need to add the new Yahoo! Shopping fields to your Catalog Manager.
Please follow these steps to add the new fields to your Catalog Manager:
  1. From your Store Manager click on the "Catalog Manager" link. When you first use your new Catalog Manager you will be prompted to go through the Migration Tool. This step-by-step process will guide you through exporting your Store Editor items into your new Catalog Manager. Once this is complete you can continue with the steps outlined below to add in the required Yahoo! Shopping fields.

  2. Click on the "Manage your Tables" link. On the next page, you will see a list of the tables for your store. (What is a table?)
    • If you previously created custom Types in the Editor you will see a table to correspond with each Type. (What are Types?)

    • If you never created custom Types in the Editor, all of your items will be in the "default-table."
  3. Click on the table to which you would like to add Shopping fields. (For example, if the items that you would like to list in Yahoo! Shopping are using the "default-table," you will want to select this table.)

  4. Check for the following fields:

    • Under Mandatory fields:
      • Code
      • Name
      • Price
    • Under Shopping fields:
      • Product-url
      • Merchant-category
      • Medium
    • If you do not have those fields already:

      • Click the "Edit" button.
      • Select the appropriate field from the drop down menu.
      • Click "Add Field."
      • Click "Update" and then "Save."

  5. Fill out the new fields for each product. Note: If you are selling Music or Video products, when you fill out the "Medium" field, you must select from the following case-sensitive values in the drop-down menu:

For Music: CD, Cassette, MiniDisc, LP, EP, 45

For Video: VHS, Beta, 8mm, Laser Disc, DVD, VCD

  6. Repeat these steps for each table that contains items you would like to submit to Yahoo! Shopping.

  7. Now that these fields have been set up in Catalog Manager they will also be available in your Store Editor.

    • If you use the Store Editor to manage your web site, when you create or edit your items manually in the Store Editor, you will be able to enter information into these fields.

    • If you use the Database Upload tool, you can now use the new Shopping fields as columns in your database file and they will now be recognized by Store Editor. Please note that we recommend that all merchants currently using the Database Upload tool in the Store Editor continue to use this tool in the Editor and not in the Catalog Manager.

For example, if your old file had these fields:

    name,price,code,path,caption,options

Your new upload will have the same fields, as well as a few extra fields:

    name,price,code,path,caption,options,product-url,merchant-category,medium

After you have done the upload, remember to publish from your Store Editor in order to make your changes live on your site. Once you have registered with Yahoo! Product Submit (by clicking on the Yahoo! Shopping link in your Store Manager), publishing from your Store Editor will also update your products in Yahoo! Shopping.
