My site fails authentication. What is wrong?

There are several reasons why site authentication may fail. Please check all of the following:

  • Verify that you have copied the key file name and key file contents correctly. If either part is incorrect, your site will not be authenticated.
  • Verify that you have copied the numbers and placed the correct file name and file contents into the Authenticate with Yahoo! Site Explorer field.
  • Verify that you have published your Order Settings. If you are not able to get to your file name using your browser (e.g. http://yourdomain.com/filename-number.html) then your Order Settings have not been published and this file has not been created in your root domain for Yahoo! to authenticate.
  • Verify that you have returned to Yahoo! Site Explorer and clicked the "Ready to Authenticate" button, which instructs Yahoo! Site Explorer to check your site for the authentication file with the correct file contents.
