Gift Certificates Guidelines

Yahoo!'s goal is to provide online shoppers with the ultimate shopping experience. This means offering a wide selection of products at great prices, but it also means encouraging outstanding customer service from Merchants. We developed the following Gift Certificate Guidelines to encourage outstanding customer service from Merchants within Yahoo! Store that issue gift certificates. Every Merchant should review these Guidelines carefully and make sure that its store complies with these Guidelines. Failure to comply with these Guidelines might result in removal of the offending Merchant's store from Yahoo! Store or other action as Yahoo! deems appropriate.

Guidelines

  1. Timing of Delivery: A Merchant must provide clear and conspicuous notice to users in its store of the amount of time after a gift certificate purchase that the gift certificate will be delivered via email to the recipient (e.g., within one day, two days or three days after the date of purchase).
  2. Additional Fees or Charges: If, in accordance with applicable law, a Merchant imposes any additional fees or charges on the redemption of gift certificates, it must provide clear and conspicuous notice of those fees or charges to users in its store.
  3. Restrictions on Redemption: If, in accordance with applicable law, a Merchant imposes any restrictions on the redemption of gift certificates, it must provide clear and conspicuous notice of those restrictions to users in its store.
  4. Notice of Termination: If a Merchant elects to close its store, it must provide notice to those users who have outstanding or unredeemed gift certificates within a reasonable time before closure. The notice must provide the terms for redemption of gift certificates before closure.

Yahoo! believes that these Guidelines set forth the basic tenets of outstanding customer service with respect to the administration of gift certificates. By establishing these Guidelines, we hope to help a Merchant's customers – our users – feel comfortable purchasing and redeeming gift certificates through the Yahoo! Store platform.

Yahoo! reserves the right to change or modify these Guidelines at any time. Nothing in these Guidelines should be construed as altering the Yahoo! Store Merchant Service Agreement or any other merchant agreement with Yahoo!. Failure to comply with these Guidelines might result in removal of the offending Merchant's store from Yahoo! Store or other action as Yahoo! deems appropriate under the Yahoo! Store Merchant Service Agreement or any other merchant agreement between the offending Merchant and Yahoo!.

Reminder: Because Yahoo! is not itself a participant in the sale of goods or services, Merchants are solely responsible for any and all claims arising out of the Merchant's store, including but not limited to the issuance, administration and redemption of gift certificates. For more information, please see the Yahoo! Store Merchant Service Agreement.

To notify us of Merchants who are not complying with these Guidelines, or if you have any questions about any of these Guidelines, please contact us.
