What does it mean that my site has been submitted to Yahoo! Search and Google?

Submitting simply means that we make search engines aware of your site. In most cases, they will add your site to their search indexes, which are databases of billions of web pages discovered, crawled, and indexed by those search engines.

If you are a Merchant Solutions customer, or a Web Hosting customer using Site Solution, we'll submit your web site to Yahoo!, Google, and other search engines automatically. If you use another tool to build you site, you can submit your site yourself from your Web Hosting Control Panel.

Important: Please note that while Yahoo! can help you put your best foot forward to search engines, we cannot guarantee your site's placement in search results — or that it will be listed (indexed) at all.

Although your site will likely be added to the Yahoo! and Google databases, it will not necessarily appear in the top results for any given search term. In other words, just submitting your site isn't enough! You'll need to spend some time promoting your site to help Internet users will find you, with or without search engines.

Yahoo! Search ranks sites by relevance, presenting results from both the Yahoo! Search index and the Yahoo! Directory. Google uses similar processes to rank and reorder sites in its index. A site's position in these lists can change over time, as new sites are added, other sites change their content, and the search engines themselves modify and improve their ranking tools.
