Filtering and Mobile Alerts

If you want to receive important email when you’re away from the computer, simply set up an AT&T Mail filter to forward messages to your mobile device. When a new message arrives that matches your filter, AT&T Mail will send the message on to your phone or PDA.

To receive Yahoo! Mobile email, you need a valid email address and a mobile device that supports text messaging. Make sure you have your device handy before you continue; you’ll need to use it during the setup process.

Here’s How

  1. Go to your AT&T Mail Filters page. (Remind me how.)

  2. First register your mobile device. Just click the Register your device link near the top of the Filters page.

Click the Register your device link.Enlarge

  3. Follow the prompts on the "Create Mobile Alerts" screens.

    • Step 1: Specify Device Type—Select your mobile device and the message limit from the pull-down menus, then click Continue to Step 2.

    • Step 2: Enter Mobile Information—Type the requested information for your wireless device, then click Continue to Step 3.

Tip: The specific information that you need to enter here depends on the type of device that you are registering.

    • Step 3: Choose Your Device—Select your device model, then click Continue to Step 4. This enables Yahoo! to send information to you in the correct format for your device.

Yahoo! Mobile now sends a text message containing a five-digit confirmation code to the device you are registering.

    • Step 4: Confirm Your Device—Type the confirmation code into the box, then click the Confirm button to finish the registration process.

  4. Once you have successfully registered your mobile device, you need to set up mail alerts. On the Setting Up Mail Alerts page that appears next, select the device that you registered as the one to receive the alerts.

Step 1 of setting up a mail alert.

  5. Click the Save button to return to the Filters page and begin creating a new filter. (Remind me how.)

You can set up any filter conditions you would like. If you want to receive an alert for every email message you receive, type your AT&T Mail address (Your Yahoo! ID@sbcglobal.net) in the To/Cc contains box.

  6. Select your Inbox or any other folder as the destination for your filter.

  7. Check the box next to Send an alert to my Mobile Device.

Check the box in front of Send an alert to my Mobile Device.

  8. Click the Add Filter button.

The new filter appears in your filter list and shows that it sends a message to your mobile device.

The filter's summary shows that it forwards a message to a wireless device.

What’s Next

Now when a new message arrives that matches your filter, AT&T Mail sends a 100-character alert to your mobile device. The alert includes the From and Subject headers and the first part of the email message. To read the full message, access your AT&T Mail account from any computer connected to the Internet.
