Note: A category name can have up to 15 characters and can’t contain any of the following characters: slashes (\ /), @, colons (:), semi-colons (;), brackets ( [] {} ), less-than (<) or greater-than (>) signs, spaces, commas, single or double quotes. But it can contain underscore (_)!

Type a category name and select the order in which to display the contacts.

  4. Click the Add Category button.

    Click the Add Category button.

The Edit Categories page opens with the new category listed.

  5. You can continue adding categories from this page by clicking the Add Category button and following the above steps.

  6. When you finish adding categories, click the Contacts tab to return to your Yahoo! Address Book.

  7. Now, you’re ready to add contacts to your category.

Another Way to Create a Category

You can also create a category when you add or edit contact information as shown in the Adding Contacts to Your Address Book tutorial. In the Primary Information section of the Add or Edit Contact window, type the new category name in the New Category Name box.

Type a name in the New Category Name box.

When you save the contact information, Yahoo! Address Book adds the category to your Categories list and adds the contact to the new category.

Displaying a Category of Your Choice When You Open Your Yahoo! Address Book

By default, when you open your Yahoo! Address Book, the All category displays. You can change the default so that the category of your choice displays when you open your Address Book. The Working With Categories tutorial shows you how to do this.
