Customising Web Filter Settings

What Is the Web Filter? Changing Restriction Levels Allowing and Blocking Sites

Changing the Restriction Level

An easy way to customise your child’s Internet access is to change the Web Filter restriction level. There are four predefined restriction levels:

  • No restrictions—The user can view any web site. This is the default for the Full Access level.
  • Blocking Web Sites by type—The user can’t view web sites in the blocked categories of content. This is the default for the Mature Teens and Teens access levels, with different categories blocked or allowed for different levels.
  • Use Yahooligans!—The user can only view web sites that are listed in the Yahooligans! directory of web sites for kids. This is the default for the Kids access level.
  • Allow and restrict specific web sites—Detailed lists define the specific web sites that the user can view, as well as those that the user is restricted from viewing. Any web site that isn’t included on the list of allowed sites is automatically blocked.

When you select any restriction level other than No restrictions, Yahoo! screens web sites before displaying them and only shows your child sites in categories that you’ve approved.

Here’s How

  1. Go to the Web Filter settings page for the family member whose web access you want to customise. (Remind me how.)

  2. To select a level or restriction, click the radio button in front of it.

  3. If you select Block the following types of Web sites as the restriction level, you can further specify the types of sites to allow or block. When a box is checked, your child is blocked from accessing the corresponding category of web content.

  4. Click the Save Settings button to save your changes.

What’s Next

In most cases, setting a general restriction level for Internet access for your child is enough. If you want, however, you can further customise the general restrictions by allowing or blocking specific web sites.
