Receiving a Call via Open Talk

It’s really very simple. Anyone on your Messenger List can connect to your PC by clicking the Open Talk phone icon and link next to your name on his or her list. The person must be using the latest version of Messenger.

A contact clicks the link next to your name.

When someone clicks your Open Talk link—and assuming you aren’t already on a call—you’ll hear one ring and then an IM window will appear. The caller will be able to hear all activity around your computer’s microphone. You don’t have to do a thing! Of course, you can talk to the caller if you like.

If you’re already connected through a PC-to-PC call, you can either accept the Open Talk call or let the caller leave a voice mail. If you accept the new call, Messenger places your first caller on hold and the new caller has your full attention. Check out the Using PC-to-PC Calling tutorial for more information.

  • Open Talk: a Messenger feature that lets your friends connect a PC-to-PC call to your PC without waiting for you to accept the call.
