Using Disposable Addresses

Disposable addresses let you receive mail from people to whom you don't want to give your primary BT Yahoo! Mail address.

For example, when you place an order with an online vendor, they typically require you to supply an email address that they can use to send an order confirmation. If you give them one of your disposable addresses, you still receive the confirmation message through BT Yahoo! Mail, but the vendor doesn't have your “real” address to use for other purposes.

You can also use a disposable address when you sign up for a mailing list or sign up for an online service.

When you reply to an email sent to one of your disposable addresses, by default BT Yahoo! Mail uses that disposable address as the From address. Your primary BT Yahoo! Mail address is not revealed, unless you manually choose to use it in your reply.

You can also use disposable addresses when sending new messages. To do this, you must be sure that the disposable address is enabled for sending email.

 

Here’s How

  1. Go to the AddressGuard page in BT Yahoo! Mail. (Remind me how.)

  2. Select the address that you want to use for sending messages in the list of disposable addresses.

    The options summary for the address shows you if it can be used for sending messages.

    The address's preferences show that mail can’t be sent from the address.

    If the disposable address you want to use doesn’t permit sending messages, you need to change this option.

  3. With the address selected in the list, click the Edit button.

    Click the Edit button to change preferences for the selected address.

  4. On the Edit Disposable Address page, select the Allow mail to be sent from this address option.

    Check the Allow mail to be sent from this address option and, optionally, provide a name to use in the From header.Enlarge

  5. If you want, you can also specify the name that will appear in the From header of messages that you send using this address.

  6. Click the Save Changes button to update the options for this disposable address.

    This address now appears in the From menu on the BT Yahoo! Mail Compose page. You can choose it instead of your regular BT Yahoo! address whenever you compose a new message.

    Select the disposable address that you want to use from the From menu.
