Sending Mail Using a Non-BT Yahoo! Address

You can use BT Yahoo! Mail to send messages from a non-BT Yahoo! email address, even if you don’t receive—or "pop"—messages from that account. This means that you can set up BT Yahoo! Mail to send all your email from one place, and choose the address you use to send each message. Of course, being able to send messages from a non-Yahoo! email address is especially useful if you also check external (POP) mail and want to reply to emails that were sent to you at a different email address.

Tip: You can’t configure BT Yahoo! Mail to retrieve messages from another BT Yahoo! Mail account that hasn’t been set up for POP3 access, but you can still send messages from that account.

Here’s How

  1. Follow the procedure for adding a non-BT Yahoo! email address through Step 2: Enter Email Address. (Remind me how.)

  2. If you don’t want to retrieve messages from this non-BT Yahoo! account using BT Yahoo! Mail, click the Skip This Step button to skip Step 3.

    The Verify Account page appears.

  3. If the email address shown is correct, click the Send Verification button. BT Yahoo! Mail sends a confirmation message to the specified email address.

  4. To verify that you are the owner of that email account, check that email account for the message from BT Yahoo! Mail, and follow the instructions in the message to complete the verification process.

Once you have verified that you own the non-Yahoo! mail account, the address is added to the From pull-down menu on the Compose screen.

  5. To send a message from a non-BT Yahoo! email address, compose a message and select the address using the From menu.

Select the non-BT Yahoo! address to use from the From menu when you compose the message.

What’s Next

When you reply to a message retrieved from a non-BT Yahoo! email account, BT Yahoo! Mail automatically uses the return address associated with that account. Use the From menu to select a different address.
