Editing a Non-BT Yahoo! Mail Account

The handy Add Account wizard in BT Yahoo! Mail takes care of most settings for accessing a non-Yahoo! email account. However, you may want, or need, to edit the account information to set up some options yourself.

  • Account Name: You can change the account name at any time.

  • Sending Mail: You can change the "From" name and the "Reply to" email address. You can’t change the verified email address.

  • Receiving Mail: You can change any of the following options associated with receiving mail from the external account:

    • POP mail server name.
    • Your username.
    • Your password.
    • The indicator colour to mark messages received from this account.
    • The folder where BT Yahoo! Mail delivers incoming messages from this account. (Inbox is the default folder.)
    • The POP port for the POP mail server, if the server uses a port other than 110.
    • Leave mail on POP server: Specifies whether the messages retrieved to your BT Yahoo! Mail account remain in your external mail account (this is the default) or are deleted from the external mail server.
    • Retrieve new messages only: Specifies whether BT Yahoo! Mail retrieves only the new messages in your external mail account (this is the default) or all messages.
    • Use filters: Specifies whether BT Yahoo! Mail uses any filters that you’ve defined when it retrieves non-Yahoo! messages (this is the default) or ignores your filters.

 

Here’s How

  1. Go to the Mail Accounts page in BT Yahoo! Mail. (Remind me how.)

  2. Select the mail account that you want to edit from the list of accounts, then click the Edit button.

    Select the mail account to edit, then click the Edit button.

  3. On the Edit Account page, make changes to the current settings, then click the Save Changes button.

 

What’s Next

The new settings take effect immediately. Changes in account information and the delivery folder are reflected on the Mail Accounts page.
