Removing Contacts From a Category

You can remove one or more contacts from a user-created category. Removing a contact from a category doesn’t delete the contact or remove it from any other categories. At the very least, the contact remains in the All category. To learn how to delete the contact from your Address Book completely, take a look at the Working With Contact Information tutorial.

Here’s How

  1. In the Contacts tab, select a category from the Categories list.

    Select a category.

The category and its contacts open on the right.

  2. Click the box next to the contacts that you want to remove.

Select the contacts you want to remove.

  3. Click the Remove from Category button.

    Click Remove from Category.

The category updates with the selected contacts removed.

Note: Removing a contact from a category doesn’t delete the contact or remove it from any other categories. At the very least, the contact remains in the All category.

What’s Next

If you didn’t mean to remove a contact from a category, display the All category, find the contact, and then add the name back to your category as described in the Creating Groups of Contacts (Categories) tutorial.
