Set Your Ad Group Bid

Use the Set Your Ad Group Bid page to define a bid for your ad group during the Create Campaign, Create Ad Group, or the Set CM Bids processes. Once you have created your ad group, you can edit this ad group bid by selecting your ad group and clicking the Bid button in the Campaign Details page.

Setting an Ad Group Bid When Campaign Optimization is Off

You can specify an ad group bid to apply to the keywords in the selected ad groups. Your bid is the maximum amount you are willing to pay each time your ad is clicked.

To specify an ad group bid:

  1. While creating your campaign or ad group, open the Set Your Ad Group Bid page.

  2. In the Set Your Ad Group Bid page, you can specify an ad group bid for Sponsored Search, Content Match, or both. You will be prompted if the bid you entered is below the minimum required to keep all of the Sponsored Search keywords that use the ad group default bid or the Content Match ad group active. You can either use the bid you entered or select a new bid.

    • For Sponsored Search, specify an ad group bid. This will serve as the default bid for Sponsored Search keywords in your ad group. If your Sponsored Search ad group default bid does not satisfy all of the minimum bids for the keywords using the ad group default bid, then some of the keywords in the ad group could become inactive. To keep all of the keywords in the ad group active, set the ad group default bid high enough to meet the highest minimum bid of the keywords in the ad group, or set custom keyword bids.
    • Note: Sponsored Search custom level bids need to be managed at the keyword level.

    • or Content Match, specify an ad group bid.
    • Note: If the bids you specified are below the minimum amount required to keep your Content Match ad groups active, then you will be prompted to either change the bid amounts to the required minimums or to keep your specified bids and allow your Content Match ad groups to be inactive.

  3. Click the Next button.

    • For Sponsored Search, you can either use the default bid limit that you set for the campaign or you can specify a custom bid limit for the ad group.
    • For Content Match, you can either use the default bid limit that you set for the campaign or you can specify a custom bid limit for the ad group.
