When you are signed into Yahoo!, Companion tries to connect to the Internet in order to retrieve email alerts from your Yahoo! Account. To prevent this from happening, make sure you sign out of Yahoo! before you disconnect from the Internet.
To make signing out of Yahoo! more convenient, there's a "Sign Out" button that you can add to your Yahoo! Companion toolbar.
