When you start typing into the Search bar at the top of Yahoo.com, you might find that after entering a few letters, a drop down list appears with several choices. These are appearing based on what you’ve typed so far and the list dynamically changes as you add or remove characters in the Search field.

This feature, known as Search Direct, is designed to provide quick access to the topic you’re looking for without having to completely type it out. For example, if you enter, “yahoo”, a list will appear below with multiple Yahoo! topics such as “yahoo mail”, “yahoo calendar”, and “yahoo sports” among others. Simply click the appropriate topic suggestion from the list to search Yahoo! for it.

While this can be a handy way to quickly find specific information by only entering a few letters or words, we realize it might not be for everyone.  If you do not want to see the Search Direct feature when using Yahoo! Search, you can easily shut it off by doing the following:

1.    Type a few letters into the search bar to bring up the Search Direct drop-down list.

2.    You should see ““Search Assist:  On | Off” in the upper right corner of the Search Assist drop-down list. Click “Off” which should appear grayed out.

3.    You should now no longer see the drop-down list of suggested search topics appear.
