Greeting Gamers,

Title: Java7: Security Issues AND Compatibility

Description:  Java 7's new restrictive security improvements have made it more difficult when playing Yahoo! Games Classic Parlor Games like: Spades, Canasta, Euchre, Pool and Hearts. A security certificate will be presented when you log into a game room that states the application has been blocked by security settings.

Current status (Updated Jan 22, 2014):  Because of this, Yahoo Games does not support the latest Java update (Java 7 Update 51).  The older games have been available “as is”  while we build a new generation of parlor games. We have preview versions of some of those games on the website currently, please see Poker and Pool on the Games homepage.

There are a few options for workarounds to using Java 7.51 while playing the older games, BUT THEY ARE NOT RECOMMENDED because you are making your computer less secure and in some cases you need to remember to undo the changes after playing the games.

If you wish to pursue these workarounds, please see the options below:

1) Java instructions for adding the games web pages as an exception:

http://java.com/en/download/help/java_blocked.xml

2) Firefox instructions for for adding the games web pages as an exception:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/security-and-passwords-settings#w_security-settings

3) You can also change your overall Java security settings while playing the games, BUT THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED because you are making your computer less secure and you should remember to set the security back to default settings every time you finish playing.

Java instructions for lowering your overall security settings.

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/jcp_security.xml

4) Uninstalling older versions:

In some cases, older versions of Java may be interfering with newer versions and need to be uninstalled.

http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml

5) Using an earlier version of Java

Yahoo doesn't want to correct the problem then the solution is to stop using their any of the Companies that advertise on their site and stop doing anything with any sponsors!

I agree, screw Yahoo. You play certain games for over 10 years and they tell you they can't set up compatibility with current Java/ Are they kiding? Look like the war is over and Google won. Bye yahoo.

Yes I agree! After years of playing mahjong solitaire and meeting soooo many lovely people as I played, I am now forced to stop playing!!!
Hardly the response Yahoo was wanting I'm sure. But I guess they are trying to protect us!?
I will really miss catching up with my friend o/seas!

Yahoo, you may be trying to do us a favour but it has also reduced your players.

Let's know if you can get around the problem securely!

SAME THING FOR ME .  But the message changed now after I added yahoo to the exceptions list. I dont know who you are BERNADETTE but if you are a member of yahoo legitimately here is what I say ., "Oh really ?", so you will NOT be updating to accomodate ? Well then guess what ? You are going to lose a TON of traffic .

Whomever wrote the "I updated and all levels are working" is a member of the yahoo team , deny it all you want.  I updated Java , changed it to medium,  Disabled pop ups in multiple places, tried it on new computers old computers , OTHER houses computers and said a black magic spell over it.  I used every single suggestion on this board and the net and I STILL get  ,,,,,,,

"BLOCKED EVEN THOUGH YAHOO IS ADDED TO YOUR "exceptions" list.  Same thing as always, yahoo is going to keep losing traffic until it realizes it needs to take the time or spend the money or do whatever it is  that will resume traffic.  Quietly. All of a sudden ,, one day , out of nowhere , Ill try it and it will work . As usual.

Actually, thinking., what I am going to do is delete ever singe email account I have with yahoo and entirely boycott yahoo completely in protest.   I'll check back monthly to see if I can get into Literati. Why should I give hits which equal money to a site which is no longer entertaining ME.

AND I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO DO THE SAME. AVOID THIS SITE COMPLETELY UNTIL THEY GET THE JAVA COMPATIBILITY RESOLVED. BOYCOTT.

I have Java 7 Update 51 and a verification that no older Javas exist in my PC .

I cannot  enter games due to a security warning that seems to affect other players too.

In my case , this appeared in December 2013 .  Am I right to understand that this is due to

Yahoo's negligence in updating the Java security settings ? Looks like Marissa  has plenty of

of eyeballs for Yahoo's ads and decided to kick out a few thousand . Keep up the good work

Marissa . After decidind to kick out De Castro with $ 100+ mil. indemnity package , now she kicks out

the players (without the extra benefits of De Castro though) . Solution : I stopped visiting Yahoo .

If they don't care , I don't either .

WHY WONT YAHOO FIX THIS ISSUE????

I RECENTLY RECEIVED AN INDICATOR TO UPDATE JAVA WHICH HAS ALWAYS BEEN REQUIRED TO USE YAHOO GAMES.  I UPDATED JAVA, AND NOW I GET THE CERTIFICATE SAYING THE BRIDGE GAME HAS BEEN BLOCKED BY SECURITY SETTINGS.  I HAVE BEEN PLAYING YAHOO BRIDGE FOR YEARS AND NOW CANT BECAUSE OF THIS.

This whole Yahoo game thing is a big mess. I have played bridge, gin and cribbage for years and now can't get into play anything. Until this issue gets fixed Yahoo has lost me. I play bridge on BBO now and it is so much better.
