Title: Java7/Mac: Security Issues AND Incompatibility with some Yahoo! Games

Description:  Adding information regarding Oracle/Apple security updates AND previously updated regarding Java 7 (Build 9): customers using Mac computers are unable to connect to the Yahoo! Games server.

Current status:  JAVA SECURITY ISSUES: Here is the 1/13 update from Oracle regading Java vulnerabilities. Oracle strongly recommends that customers apply the updates provided by this Security Alert as soon as possible.

Regarding Java 7 (Build 9): customers using Mac computers are unable to connect to the Yahoo! Games server.

Java 7's new restrictive security improvements have made it incompatible for Mac users with Yahoo! Games Classic Parlor Games like: Spades, Canasta, Euchre, Pool and Hearts. We apologize for the inconvenience and invite you to play other games in our catalog. UPDATE: See the more detailed announcement, and please note we will not be updating these game engines to accommodate changes to operating systems, browsers, Java updates, or Javascript plugins.

For more info:  We have had mixed results in rolling back to Java 6. Restoring Java 6 is possible, but requires some technical know-how and admin level access to your computer.  It does not restore the ability to play the Classic Parlor Games for all browsers, and Apple encourages you to use the most recent Java updates for security reasons. We did have success in Firefox after clearing cookies and restarting the browser and computer. (UPDATE: Specifics – Mac OSX 10.7.5 and Firefox 16.0.2. Customer reporting shows that this doesn't always work, perhaps due to OS or browser version differences.)

Apple offers step-by-step instructions to roll back to Java 6.
 
Java 7 is not pre-installed on Macs, unlike Java 6 and previous versions. You can find more Java support at the Java Mac Support FAQ

 This is really unacceptable that you have created a situation where there is no solution. I have beenplaying hearts on yahoo for years, and now I have been locked out because you didn't do beta testing to check out compatability of upgrading Java with the newer computers. What is wrong with your techies at yahoo?

I am very disappointed with Yahoo, but this isn't the first time. You certainly are not a major player, whenyou can make such fundamental errors and make it so frustrating for your users.

 This is ridiculous. I can't believe this problem hasn't been fixed yet. I am unable to play on any browser with my mac.

I am having this same problem with my Yahoo Online Games - Pinochle.  I sure hope there is some help for this situation soon.

 I just bought a new macbook pro 4 days ago.  One of the first things I did when I got home was try to play Yahoo! Canasta.  I am so disappointed that this is an issue and I sincerely hope that it is fixed very soon.  i tried to do the Java 6 rollback, but it didn't work, so I am back on version 7.  Please fix this problem soon. I have a brand new macbook and I can't even do one of my favorite activities on it - geesh!

 When am I going to be able to play bridge with my Mac? It is ridiculous that it is taking so long for Yahoo to fix this problem.

 I have suddenly been locked out of Mahjong Solitaire on my IMac.  I am still able to play it on a much older Mac laptop.  Is this problem every going to be fixed?  It is very disappointing not to be able to access games that I have been playing for years.
